See a shiny, guess its normal colour.
A shiny sprite is shown and you name the colour the Pokédex gives its ordinary, non-shiny form.
How True Colours works
Every round shows a Pokémon in its shiny palette, and you name the official Pokédex colour of its normal form, not the recolour in front of you. The dex colour belongs to the standard version, so the shiny you are looking at is a deliberate decoy: a normally blue creature might shine gold, yet blue is still the answer. Once you pick from four colour options, the sprite flips to the normal form on the reveal beat, paying off the guess by showing the base form you were naming. Endless, quiz, and timed formats run solo or as pass and play.
Strategy
Recognise the Pokémon first, then answer for the form you cannot see. The shiny colours exist to mislead, so if you know the species you already know its normal colour and can ignore the palette entirely. When the shiny is unfamiliar, look past the recolour to the shape and markings to identify who it is, then recall the base form's dex bucket. Treat vivid shiny golds, greens, and pinks as noise rather than clues.
What it teaches
True Colour trains recognition independent of palette: you learn to identify a species from an unusual recolour and to hold its canonical Pokédex colour in mind, separating what a shiny looks like from how the games officially file it.
